Maternal Mental Health: a business issue at SHE Conference

01.04.25

Oslo, Norway – Norway is often held up as a model of gender equality and progressive family policies - yet our State of Motherhood in Europe 2024 survey reveals a deeply concerning trend: maternal mental health remains a silent crisis, even in the most advanced welfare states.

At the SHE Conference in Oslo, the largest gender equality conference in Europe, we joined the panel discussion “The New Generation of Parents at Work,” organised by Landsforeningen 1001 dager, one of our key network members.

The session was moderated by Cecilie Ramona Kass Furuseth, and featured powerful contributions from:

  • Mette Schjelderup and Lena Yri Engelsen (Landsforeningen 1001 dager)
  • Wenche Fredriksen (DNB)
  • Dr. Kaveh Rashidi
  • Anne-Claire de Liedekerke (MMM)

Drawing on survey data from nearly 10,000 mothers across Europe, the panel explored how current work environments are still failing to meet the needs of modern families.

“Mothers are not just caregivers – they’re leaders, professionals, and economic drivers. We need to reimagine workplaces that prioritise maternal mental health,” said Anne-Claire de Liedekerke, MMM President.

Key messages from the participants

Our heartfelt thanks go to Astrid Rønning Skaugseth and the SHE Community for giving this critical issue the platform it deserves.
