According to UN Women Statistics, in major peace negotiations between 1992 and 2011, women represented only

  • 2% of chief mediators
  • 4% of signatories
  • 9% of negotiators

Yet, studies show that women participation in peace negotiation does contribute to real and lasting peace. When women are included in peace processes there is a 20% increase in the probability of an agreement lasting at least 2 years, and a 35% increase in the probability of an agreement lasting at least 15 years.
