About this study

Make Mothers Matter, conducted the State of Motherhood in Europe 2024 survey to ask women about their experience of motherhood.

In collaboration with Leading Market Research expert KANTAR, 9,600 mothers across 11 EU countries and the UK were interviewed as part of the survey.

The findings confirm that mothers feel unappreciated, unsupported both at home and at work, and that their mental health is suffering.

  • 50% of mothers in Europe report suffering from mental health issues
  • 55% changed their working status after having children
  • Nearly 27% say motherhood negatively impacted their careers
  • And 25% of fathers took no paternity leave, despite being entitled to it
